Paint effects
are a nice way of transforming any surface, especially walls
. And it's an easy and fun process once you know how to do
it and what to use. and one of these effects is
color-washing. This effect can be achieved easily using
diluted paint and a dry brush or cloth, depending on the
final look you want to achieve.

Starting
with a painted wall with the base color, dilute the second
color (with water if it's water based. one part paint to at
least 4 parts water) and using a large brush apply the color
on the wall using a random criss-cross motion . You can use
a dry brush to soften the color a bit, wiping the brush
frequently to remove access paint .
The effect
you will get will be uneven, ranging from dark to light, and
that's the beauty of it, it's an informal look that is good
for disguising wall imperfections, or an unsatisfactory
paint color. Just make sure to use the lightest color for
the base and the darker for the color-wash for the best
result.

In this room
you can see how I used color-washing to get a cloudy look on
the upper part of the walls. the base color is white while I
used two tones of light blue for the color-wash. As for the
lower part of the wall, the two tones of blue are shown in
alternating stripes. a light green horizontal stripe act as
a divider, while ascriptions of flower names in soft purple
add a decorative touch. |
